Understanding Wood Cracks
As solid wood seasons, dries, and adapts to its environment, it naturally develops "checking"—which are splits or cracks in the surface. These cracks are a normal part of how raw wood breathes and can sometimes be quite drastic or wide. Please be assured this is a natural process and does not affect the structural strength or integrity of your sculpture.
